Ebola Update in DR Congo

July 15, 2026, from the US Embassy Kinshasa, DR Congo: Due to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Department of Homeland Security has implemented new restrictions under Title 49 of the U.S. Code which prevent U.S. citizens and nationals who have been in the DRC within a 21-day period from entering the United States via commercial aviation. Travelers who have been in the DRC within 21 days of their flight will not be allowed to board flights with U.S. destinations. All U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals who have been in the DRC should plan to remain outside the DRC for 21 days before entering the United States. Although there have been no cases reported in the Ubangi-Mongala provinces where the Covenant Church of Congo resides, this new travel restriction prevents our our Medical Ambassadors from traveling to Congo as planned.

We ask your prayers for:

  • For the protection and financial relief of frontline medical workers, especially those working unpaid under hazardous conditions.
  • For an immediate end to the violence and attacks against Ebola treatment centers, allowing medical teams to safely save lives.
  • For effective contact tracing and containment, that health officials can successfully identify the 80% of unknown transmission chains.
  • For the comfort and healing of infected families, and for a halt to the spread of the deadly Bundibugyo virus strain.
  • For breakthroughs in clinical drug trials, so that medical teams can soon access an effective treatment or vaccine.
  • For emotional and spiritual support for communities, as quarantine rules and health safety measures prevent traditional mourning gatherings and physical comfort.
