Dear *|FNAME|*,

Fall is here and we have many exciting updates to share! From coffee, bicycling, attending a Medical Ambassadors retreat, and PCP Sunday on November 1, we hope these opportunities to support our partners in DR Congo and connect with one another are an encouragement to you.

Merci mingi,

Paul Carlson Partnership
Join Dennis Carlson and Team Brothers Biking for Congo for a 45-mile Virtual Ride in October

Over the past 4 years, Team BBC has sponsored week-long summer rides in Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and California totaling 1,636 miles and raising $51,021 for Paul Carlson Partnership’s Congo Clinic Initiative. Due to a major move from Michigan to Texas this past Spring for Team BBC Leader Pastor Dennis Carlson (and with the COVID pandemic thrown in on top of that) no BBC Ride had been planned for 2020.

Around the same time, Pastor Dennis was diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. He began a 45-day radiation treatment plan on August 5 and the prognosis is good. With his doctor’s blessing, he was encouraged to keep biking. “Just listen to your body!”  Dennis is currently well on his way to reaching his goal of biking 450 miles during his 45-day radiation treatment plan, currently scheduled to conclude on October 13.  To celebrate the completion of his treatment on (or around) October 24, he hopes to ride 45 miles in one day—unless his body at that point is telling him to do it in two days!

If you are also grateful for the access to healthcare that you have where you live, Pastor Dennis is inviting you to join in, wherever you are, to support the most basic healthcare needs of the people of DR Congo through PCP’s ”next generation” healthcare focus, UCare4Congo, building upon the success of the Congo Clinic Initiative. UCare4Congo supports the entire Covenant Church of Congo medical system, which includes training medical professionals, providing medicines and supplies, improved infrastructure, and quality patient care.

How it Works
Visit the event page to donate, or Create a Team of your own and commit to bicycling (or running/walking) 45 miles between now and the end of October. This can be completed in whatever works best for you! Each participant is asked to enlist sponsors who will donate $1.00 per mile, totaling $45 from each sponsor. The goal is to raise $4,500, which is only 100 sponsorships. If we reach our $4,500 goal, we have a challenge commitment already to add another $500 to round the total up to $5,000. That can do a lot of good in providing Training, Medicines, Infrastructure (clean water), and Quality Patient Care for people in DR Congo. On November19, we will join together virtually to celebrate!

Join the 2nd Annual PCP Medical Ambassadors Retreat: Nov 13-14, 2020

Dear friends,
Amidst the challenges of 2020, we want to look forward to 2021 with hope and wisdom. This retreat will create thoughtful sessions where the Holy Spirit can inspire us, even through virtual connections. Our goal is to galvanize the Continuing Education aspects of the work, create parameters for success, enhance the collaboration with our Congolese counterparts, and build stronger relationships within one another through an easily accessed online event. This retreat is for both experienced PCP Medical Ambassadors and those new to the program wanting to learn.

We hope you can join us!

PCP Sunday is November 1, 2020, but you can host a PCP Sunday any time! We have developed several resources that can be used in virtual worship services and gatherings, including:

  • A worship service plan, liturgy, and songs in Lingala.
  • A Children's Curriculum with discussion, exploration, and hands-on activities (can be done at home, too!), to help students understand why the Karawa Coffee Project is so important: to reduce extreme poverty, enhance food security, and build the economy.
  • Choose a Karawa Coffee video to play during PCP Sunday.
  • Set up an offering to give to the Karawa Coffee Project.
  • Sign up to pre-order Karawa coffee.
  • Let us know if you would like a PCP representative to speak at your church, meet with the missions team, or give a brief update. We can join you virtually, too!
