2021 PCP Annual Report Video

Dear PCP friends,

We are excited to provide to you the 2021 PCP Annual Report video that was shared at the 2021 Covenant Annual Meeting. Delegates also had the opportunity to taste a sample of Karawa coffee, provided in their Delegate Resource Box! We also shared our new coffee video, Karawa Coffee: From Seed to Cup. Overall, Gather 2021 was a success even though we could not see you in person. We are grateful for everyone who has donated toward the medical, economic development, and infrastructure projects in DR Congo this past year.

Looking ahead to August and September, we plan to return to DR Congo to meet Rev. Duale, the new President of the Covenant Church of Congo, and his team. Please pray for our trip, and for the PCP Medical Ambassador team as they prepare. The team is in need of funds to cover the cost of new training materials for their Congolese counterparts.

We're also excited for the upcoming Biking for Congo Challenge in October! More information will be sent to you in August. Until then, get air in those tires for a fun ride!

Joyfully in Christ,

Renée Hale
Executive Director
PCP Medical Ambassadors September Trip

The PCP Medical Ambassadors are preparing to travel to DR Congo in September 2021. The team members are Craig Anderson, Eric Gunnoe, Ann Hagensen, Jim Walker, Marta Klein, Sheryl Noren, Karen Goeke, and Kelly Shultz. They will train nurses and medical staff at the hospital level in care for mothers and preterm infants to form perinatal teams at each hospital. The Ambassadors will also train in quality improvement through change management strategies and create a CEUM Medical Department/Medical Ambassadors Memorandum of Understanding.

The team needs $9,300 for this trip to cover the cost of training materials, medical supplies, and associated travel costs. If you would like to contribute financially to the trip, please give online or mail a check to Paul Carlson Partnership at 8303 W. Higgins Rd, Chicago, Illinois 60631. Please make all checks out to Paul Carlson Partnership and note it is for the Medical Ambassadors Travel Fund

Our Relentless Care for Congo
A young boy was treated for HIV at no cost to his family. A new pediatric hospital ward for infants and children was built. A man received surgery for a severe hernia. A woman who was hemorrhaging received an immediate blood transfusion thanks to a new refrigerator. Although we have not met these patients, we know how to pray. These are just a few of the stories we hear regularly from our medical partners in DR Congo. As our relationships with medical leaders have grown, they share with us why they went into this field, knowing the challenges, suffering, and lack of resources they would face.

Antoinette Zambite (shown above), a nurse at the Bokonzo Health Center and training to be a doctor, told us recently, “I chose this profession because it was my passion since I was a child. I like helping suffering mothers and children.”
Dr. Deambi (shown above), the medical coordinator of education for the CEUM, tells us how he became interested in medicine. “When visiting a Gemena hospital that was organized by Campus Crusade, we met a soldier suffering from tetanus who had not been visited by a doctor or nurse for several days. That really troubled me. I thought, ‘If I were a doctor or a nurse, I would be able to help this person.’ It was there that the idea came to me to become a doctor. God helped me and my preoccupation now is to care for the sick.”

Our partners’ goals read as prayer requests: “That we will be able to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by another 15 percent. To increase bed occupancy rate by 120 percent. To reduce the rate of postoperative infection. To have enough supplies for treatment. For more people to give to the blood bank. For more clean water sources. The ability to pay our staff.”

Their hope is relentless, and our prayers will be too. Thank you for partnering with us in prayer with DR Congo. If you would like to give toward the medical needs, please visit paulcarlson.org/UCare4Congo.

Biking for Congo Challenge
Did you know that many people in DR Congo have to travel over 50km (that's 30 miles!) on a bicycle to get to a hospital...and while sick or injured? And what's even harder to believe is that when they arrive at the hospital, the lack of resources often prevent a person from getting better. We are excited to share with you a way you can use your own bike to help.

We invite you to join us and raise support for healthcare in DR Congo through the 2021 Biking for Congo Challenge! Bike 50 kilometers (31 miles) during October to raise support from family and friends for just $1 per kilometer. Create your own goals and team page, and order t-shirts! Get your family, friends, church, and youth groups together and help us raise $50,000 to train medical professionals, provide medicines and supplies, build clean water sources, and support quality patient care. Our partners can deepen their holistic gospel ministry of caring for the whole person and entire communities through UCare4Congo.

More information will be sent out in August!
