Happy Easter!
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.''' Mark 16:4-7
Easter Sunday comes around once a year and commands much of our attention as Christians, but perhaps what we really need to celebrate is the everyday ordinariness of what it means that Jesus is alive and continues to bless us with the forgiving grace of God.
What Jesus does for us by rising from the dead is to make us alive in him. He offers the forgiving power of love that can put the past behind – that can put our sins to rest once and for all – that can look hate and evil squarely in the face – and make it go away.
That is the victory of the cross and the triumph of the empty tomb which we celebrate every day. May we live in the joy and power of that victory today, Easter Sunday, and each day to come.
Asekwi! He is risen!
Azali Na Bomoi! He is life!
