Other Projects Supporting Change in Congo

Rebuilding bridges. Congo is webbed with rivers. The Paul Carlson Partnership has rebuilt about a dozen bridges, and we are currently working on two others. These two are on the road between Karawa and Businga–an important route not only for our programs but for the people in the area.

Other infrastructure. Through the help of generous donors, we installed a solar-powered pumping system bringing clean water to the hospital at Loko. We have also invested time and resources on rehabilitating the Zulu hydroelectric plant, which provides power to Karawa hospital. The system is now functional again, though some work remains to stabilize it.

Other microfinance. We currently have bicycle projects at work in Bumba and Yakoma. In the past we have also sponsored projects in soap-making, brick-making, and movable sawmills, along with smaller agricultural projects.

Education for young women. We will soon build a dormitory for older girls and young women who will be attending a new school being built in Karawa by Women Ministries of the Evangelical Covenant Church. We have assisted girls attending another school in Karawa, helped rehab a dorm there, and partnered with Women Ministries in the Educate the Girls initiative, raising money for girls’ exam fees.
