Other Projects Supporting Change in Congo
Rebuilding bridges. Congo is webbed with rivers. The Paul Carlson Partnership has rebuilt about a dozen bridges, most recently a bridge on national highway 24 just east of Karawa. This is an essential road, the main highway between Karawa and Gemena, and the bridge gave out just as the CEUM 75th anniversary celebration began, with a number of international guests flying into Gemena and going by this road from there to Karawa. When it happened, the CEUM leadership turned to PCP and asked if we could step in and fund the rebuilding, which needed to be done as quickly as possible. We agreed, and a strong new bridge was built.
Other construction. We have worked with local workers to build schools, re-roof older schools with metal roofs, and renovate clinics. You can read on the Paul Carlson Medical Ambassadors website about the infrastructure projects we’ve undertaken at two of the CEUM hospitals.
Other microfinance. We have started several bicycle projects at various locations, and have sponsored projects in soap-making, brick-making, and movable sawmills, along with smaller agricultural projects.
