The
Paul Carlson Partnership works in the northwestern corner of the DR
Congo, in a region known as the Ubangi-Mongala, or sometimes simply the
Ubangi. It comprises three new provinces (reorganization implemented
Feb. 2009): Nord-Ubangi (capital Gbadolite), Sud-Ubangi (capital
Gemena), and Mongala (capital Lisala). The combined area of these three
provinces is 62,000 square miles, which is a little larger than the
state of Georgia. The combined population is (estimated at) 5,286,000,
about the same as the state of Minnesota.
In Congo the Paul
Carlson Partnership works primarily with the Communauté Évangélique de
l'Ubangi-Mongala (CEUM), a sister church to the Evangelical Covenant
Church. The CEUM operates 4 hospitals (with a fifth under construction), 93 clinics, and a nursing school, all
in the Ubangi-Mongala. It also runs 423 primary and secondary schools,
with over 80,000 students.
The interactive Google map below shows PCP and CEUM sites. (Map prepared by Keith Gustafson.) You can zoom or move the map as you will, and clicking on markers will name the site marked. For more information about life in the Ubangi, see the Family Room portion of this website, opening late this summer.
