The Paul Carlson Partnership works to catalyze the development of sustainable communities in places of poverty outside the U.S., partnering with local people to develop an economic base that will enable families -- and thus communities -- to meet their own needs. With over 40 years of experience in the Democratic Republic of Congo, our current efforts are focused there; and we are now also considering a potential second location, outside Africa.
The organization was born out of concern for the medical needs of the people living in poverty in the northwestern part of the DRC, and we continue to help support a medical system of 4 hospitals (soon 5) and 93 local clinics in the Ubangi-Mongala area. We also assist an educational network of 423 schools and 80,000 students. Since the fall of 2008 we have increased our work in economic development, with the goal of fostering eventual self-sustaining communities.
