What do kids play in Congo?
Play volleyball or basketball, in the larger towns- Go fishing, canoeing, and swimming
- Climb trees
- Get fruit off of trees, especially mangoes and papaya
- Make whistles out of certain grasses and papaya branches
- Tease each other
- Make games out of work, have fun together even when working
- Ride bikes, if they can -- most kids don't have bikes, but if their parents have a bike, they want to learn to ride it
- Build small houses, especially at New Year's
- Make rhythm instruments like drums, shakers, bamboo rain sticks, etc.
- Watch a soccer game -- live (there's no TV)
- Watch big local events, even pastors' conferences, because it's something unusual and exciting
- There is a swing set and teeter-totter in one town (Bokonzo) that a PCP volunteer team put up, and the kids use it a lot, but other towns don't have that
- Eat candy - not a lot, because it costs money and is special
What they don't do
- Watch TV or movies or play video games (except that kids living in the capital city of Kinshasa might be able to go to movies)
