Leadership Development

Mentoring Leaders to Carry Change Forward
We want to work ourselves out of jobs in Congo. In order for change to become sustainable, Congolese leaders must carry the work forward. The people are working hard and making their own lives better–and we are preparing local leaders to manage and sustain the programs into the future.
Our main focus is on leadership for health care and for economic development. We have provided training both in Congo and in the U.S., and we are exploring sources in Africa and Europe.
In Congo we have provided training in:
- Small business development
- Mid-size business development
- Microfinance
- Accounting
- English language classes
- In-service training for medical staff
In the U.S. we have offered:
- English language tutoring
- Visits and observations in U.S. hospitals, for the director of the CEUM medical system
In all that we do, we adopt a mentoring approach with people who work with us in leadership positions.
Through these leadership development opportunities, Congolese and Americans build relationships that hold strong across the distance. As Westerners, we have a good deal to learn from the Congolese. People here who become directly involved find themselves changed by the friendship of our African sisters and brothers.
